Awakening

Awakening is the system by which Honkai Impact 3rd introduces new Valkyries that use the same weapons as older Valkyries, presumably to save space in the Valkyrie list and to offer a unique mechanic for players to consider while playing the game. For instance, [Gyakushinn Miko] Yae Sakura is the awakening form of [Crimson Impulse] Mei.

Awakening characters and the Valkyries they awaken from share several skills' levels with each other. These skills in game are marked with a purple background and pinkish border and the symbol. Increasing the level of one Valkyrie's skills will also increase the corresponding shared skill for the other Valkyrie. For example, both Gyakushinn Miko and Crimson Impulse share the exact same leader skill effect though the names of the skills are Heart of Prajna and Spirit of Loyalty respectively. However, if a player increases Gyakushinn Miko's Heart of Prajna skill level, Crimson Impulse's Spirit of Loyalty will also increase. This means the player will only have to pay the coin cost of upgrading the skill once instead of twice for both Valkyries.

This system also allows Valkyries to bypass rank restrictions for learning skills as well. If Gyakushinn Miko unlocks and levels up a shared skill only obtainable at S rank, Crimson Impulse, even if only at B rank, will also learn and benefit from the shared skill as well. Also please be aware that during skill cost discount events, only the skills of the Valkyries listed for the event will receive the discount. This can mean that Gyakushinn Miko will receive a discount, but Crimson Impulse will not, even if they are sharing a skill.
