Raiden Ryoma was the former CEO of Massive Electronic Corporation and a member of Anti-Entropy. He is the father of Raiden Mei.
Appearance[]
Raiden Ryoma bears a strong resemblance to his daughter, Raiden Mei. Like her, he has dark, purple-ish hair and violet eyes. In the front and sides, his hair is chin length, with a long ponytail in the back that reaches his waist. He often wears a dark suit and overcoat, with a purple tie and yellow dress shirt underneath.[2][3]
Personality[]
Raiden Ryoma was a loving father who wanted Mei to have a happy life.[4] Although his upbringing of Mei was strict,[5] he was also a patient mentor. He instilled in her mental fortitude, encouraged her when she doubted her abilities, and believed in her completely as his daughter.[4]
History[]
Raiden Ryoma is the father of Raiden Mei, who was born to him and an unnamed mother on April 13, 1997, in Nagazora City, Japan, where they lived and raised their daughter. In 1999, Mei's mother passed away from cancer, leaving her father to raise her alone. Raiden Ryoma was also the long-time CEO of Massive Electric Corporation,[6] a wealthy and powerful electronic company and Anti-Entropy subsidiary[2] that manufactured many types of weapons.[7][8][9] This position brought great wealth to Ryoma and great prestige to the Raiden clan name.[10]
As a member of Anti-Entropy, he personally handled affairs at the Yellowstone Base, where Frederica Nikola Tesla's Arahato mech was housed. He traveled to the base on February 10th, 2000 in the midst of the 2nd Herrscher crisis. There, he met with the Anti-Entropy Sovereign Welt Yang and Siegfried Kaslana, shortly before Welt showed Arahato to Siegfried.[2] In 2005, Ryoma was sent to Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he was tasked with putting up fake Arahato movie posters at a cinema to help Welt trick Murata Himeko into giving up on her inquiries into extraterrestrial life.[11]
Although Ryoma's work obligations meant he could not often spend time with her,[12] as Mei's only living family, they shared a close bond,[10] and she treasured their time together.[12] Despite his busy schedule, he still found the time to teach her[13] their family's personal style[14] of kenjutsu. Under her father's tutelage, Mei, a child prodigy, developed the highest levels of mastery in sword art.[13]
On November 16, 2013, Ryoma was arrested on charges of economic fraud. He was accused of illegally financing 3.4 billion USD under the cover of a high frequency electromagnetic field research and development project, which was abruptly terminated.[6] In reality, he was innocent of these crimes. The arrest was orchestrated by Cocolia, a rival Anti-Entropy member who framed him so that she could head ME Corp herself.[15] Despite his innocence, Ryoma's arrest had devastating effects on his family, severely tarnishing his reputation and isolating Mei from her peers.[10]
Eventually, someone cleared Ryoma's name and he was sent somewhere safe.[10] Once again a free man, he rejoined Anti-Entropy and continued duties. These led him to Anti-Entropy's New Mexico base, where he helped Siegfried Kaslana deal with his ICHOR infection.[3] While Ryoma's initial impressions of Siegfried Kaslana years before were poor,[2] their interactions now were cordial, and he took the task of helping him seriously. The two men were together when World Serpent's Raven and Jackal infiltrated the base to reclaim Siegfried's Judgement of Shamash Divine Key for its original owner, World Serpent's newly returned leader, Kevin Kaslana.[3]
Although Raiden Ryoma's arrest and Mei's obligations kept father and daughter apart for many years,[13] the pair talked on the phone when possible. During these conversations, Ryoma told Mei he was on an important mission but promised her he was safe.[10] In 2017, he was still acting as one of Anti-Entropy's independent enforcers and was among those recalled to the Salt Lake Base when most of the organization's most powerful forces were dispatched to the Schicksal Headquarters in Kolosten at the behest of Otto Apocalypse, alongside Sin Mal and Ada.[16]

- Ryoma is stated to be the designer of Pulse Katana Type-17,[7] Pulse Katana Type-19,[8] and Plasma Kagehide, his magnum opus.[9]
- Despite the close relationship between Raiden Ryoma and Mei, the Raiden Ryoma of the Honkai Impact 3rd x Evangelion collaboration’s story had a cold personality and abandoned his daughter for many years, leading Mei to greatly resent him.[17]
