FemaleA being awakened inside Seele Vollerei, originally referred to by the latter as "the other me". She's related to the stigma Seele has on her chest and vowed to protect the frail girl-the meaning of her existence-from all harm that should come her way.
Appearance[ | ]
Like Seele, she has a bob haircut, but with red highlights instead of purple. Her dress is black in contrast to Seele's white and, similarly to her hair, all the purple accessories are red. In her Starchasm Nyx form, she has long wavy hair instead. She sports red claws of varying sizes in various forms and wears a black and red lacy outfit that partially resembles an armor.
Personality[ | ]
Acts violent, cruel, and occasionally even sadistic to her enemies, but is straightforward in conveying her genuine feelings of goodwill to those she cares about. Still, she prefers fighting and violent solutions to solve problems, especially to protect Seele and her friends. Dislikes books and easily fall asleep while reading. Proved herself to be a bit of a prankster when she swapped out the ketchup for a spicy chili sauce she liked which Sin Mal in turn hated.
More recently, it has been shown that Dark Seele is actually anxious, pessimistic, and has low self-confidence, as noted by the Herrscher of Sentience. A being born from the desire for protection, her identity revolves around being Seele's protector. As Seele continues to grow more independent and mature, Dark Seele is starting to lose her sense of self. She's anxious about being forgotten by Seele, fearing that she will get left behind in the future, therefore she still clings to the fact that Seele might still need help once in a while.
She holds Seele in high regard, viewing her as everything that she's not; gentle and caring, someone that everybody likes. This in turn makes her view herself negatively and if Seele's friends find out who she is, they will dislike her thus making her even more withdrawn from Seele's social circle. Since she only knows how to solve problems through fights, she's clumsy and socially awkward especially when dealing with Seele's friends, particularly Bronya and Kiana.
History[ | ]
Dark Seele originates from the stigma on Light Seele's chest and thus has greater control over the stigma's power than its bearer. The first time she gained consciousness, all she could hear was Light Seele's voice and surroundings. Annoyed, she went back to "sleep" while noting the gentle and sweet sound of Light Seele's voice. The next time she woke up, could fully sense her, or rather Light Seele's surroundings while Light Seele was held hostage and would complain about Light Seele's inability to save herself, before coming to the realization that she can't use their powers. After the ordeal, Dark Seele demanded that Light Seele tell her what she is, only for the frightened Light Seele to call her a "demon" causing misunderstanding to both Dark Seele, who was shocked, and Bronya, who at that time thought the remark was directed at her. Bronya would then take Seele(s) back to the orphanage, promising to seek non-violent solutions from then on.
Over time, as Dark Seele kept talking to the Light Seele, her existence would be acknowledged and Light Seele would thank her for caring about her. Following the X-10 experiment, Dark Seele would be trapped together with Light Seele in the Sea of Quanta, unable to return to reality.
Story[ | ]
After being trapped in the Sea of Quanta, Light Seele decided to just wait until help arrives. Light Seele then asked Dark Seele, if she was angry because Light Seele used their powers even though Dark Seele had warned her. The latter said everything already happened, might as well figure out what to do from here on. Exhausted and scared, Light Seele started to cry, lamenting the situation, while Dark Seele tries to reassure her by saying that the Sea of Quanta would be filled with salty tears of a crybaby. To Dark Seele's surprise, Light Seele thanked her for being with her and makes her feel less alone. Not knowing how to respond, Dark Seele created the 'space' which from then on becomes the space that the two Seeles would use to communicate, and urge Light Seele to sleep.
While watching over Light Seele, Dark Seele sensed 'something' outside that space, in the Sea of Quanta. When 'it' approached, Dark Seele was ready to dispose of the potential threat, before stopping when 'it' started talking and revealing itself as a large serpent. The serpent offered Dark Seele a way out in exchange that she helps them in finding the core of the Herrscher of Reason somewhere in the Sea of Quanta. Dark Seele took the offer, for getting Seele out of here is her top priority and thus setting the stage for the Sea of Quanta arc.
Sea of Quanta arc[ | ]
After bringing reuniting with Bronya and helped her acquire the core of the Herrscher of Reason, Dark Seele took this opportunity to steal it from Bronya stating that she will do absolutely anything to get Seele out of there, even if it means hurting "Seele's precious Bronya". After a few altercations, Bronya managed to subdue Dark Seele and reassures her that Bronya is also on her side and will do everything in her power to get Seele out.
During their escape, Bronya and Seele were captured by the creatures of the deep at the edge of Sea of Quanta. Bronya, determine to get Seele out, sacrificed herself and send Seele to safety. Seele ended up in the 'space' that Dark Seele created. Seele, distraught over what happened and angry at herself, begin to hit the ground to the point of Dark Seele stopping her from hurting herself any further and telling her there's nothing they could do. Despite that, Seele managed to break through the 'space' and proceed to get back to Bronya, which was intercepted by Quantum Shadows. Determined to ave Bronya, Seele begged Dark Seele to help her, since Bronya has helped them multiple times. Hearing her host's pleas, Dark Seele activated the power of their stigmata and unleashing a huge wave, destroying the surrounding Quantum Shadows and successfully rescuing Bronya.
Herrscher of Dominance arc[ | ]
Now residing in Anti-Entrophy's Salt Lake City base, Seele is spending her days doing missions, helping around the base and continue training to control her powers with the help of Einstein and Tesla. While helping Einstein to prepare celebrations for Anti-Entrhopy's 60th Anniversary, Seele is involved in a mysterious happenings where people are disappearing without a trace. It is also the start of Seele becoming more independent.
Seele ended up befriending Kiana, much to Dark Seele's dismay. As Seele continued to spend time with Bronya and Kiana, Dark Seele felt left out and didn't talk to Seele for a while. This prompted Seele to ask Dark Seele what's wrong and pointed out that the latter rarely tells her anything. Dark Seele avoided the question, stating that Seele should just mind her own business. Coincendentally, Kiana showed up and Dark Seele used the opportunity to make Seele leave, which the latter did but not before telling Dark Seele that she can tell her anything.
Seele learned about Kiana's ordeal with her other self and wished to help her. Seele turned to Dark Seele to discuss the matter. However, feeling as though she was being compared to Sirin, which triggered her insecurity, Dark Seele lashed out in anger. Seele was quick to affirm that Dark Seele was nothing like Sirin, as she had always protected her, and apologized, which helped to calm down her own other self.
Later, while Seele was investigating a missing student in a university dorm, Dark Seele heard voices that is taunting her with things that she fears most, being abandoned. This alerted Dark Seele but proceed not to dwell on it any further as Seele didn't hear any voices.
Seele and Bronya were tasked to investigate what Einstein believed to be the source of the recent happenings, and were transported into another dimension. Having been separated from Bronya, Seele went to look for her. After going through a portal, Seele and Dark Seele also became separated and couldn't contact each other. Dark Seele was confronted by a puppet who proceeded to taunt her with her fears of being abandoned and perceived as a monster by others. Despite her efforts, Dark Seele ended up taking the puppet's words to heart, which worsened her insecurity, and took her anger out on the puppet. Sensing that Seele was incapacitated, Dark Seele rushed to her rescue and helped her escape.
After escaping the dimension, Seele spent the next days doing missions with Kiana. Seele noted that Dark Seele hasn't come out at all since getting out of the theater and wouldn't respond to her calls. On a rare occasion, Dark Seele comes out as Seele tells her about her day, though Seele noted there are more awkward silence recently. Seele, who is very happy after gaining a new friend, mentions Kiana a lot which triggered some animosity from Dark Seele. Dark Seele angrily pointed out how Seele is still as dependent as ever and Kiana is just another person for her to cling on. After ranting, Dark Seele went away leaving a confused Seele, who called her to come back.
In the 'space,' Dark Seele contemplated about having a name and started remembering what the puppet said. The puppet first taunted her by saying that she's anxious and moody. Then the taunting continues until the puppet mentioned that Seele doesn't actually like her and she will leave her, reinforcing Dark Seele's fears. Dark Seele continues to deny it as the puppet pointed out that Seele can't stop mentioning her friends' names and she doesn't even have one. That was the final nail to Dark Seele's already fragile state.
Seele spent the rest of her days as usual, with the absence of Dark Seele until one night Seele decided to pour her heart out. Seele reassured Dark Seele that she's irreplaceable and have protected her all these years and wishes to take care of Dark Seele as well. Dark Seele, who vowed she would not be swayed by her words, ended up relenting and confessed that she's not ready for Seele to be independent yet, even though she acknowledges that Seele has grown a lot.
The second time they went to the theater, the puppets managed to separate Seele and Bronya again. This time, however, they were also able to steal the powers of the Herrscher of Reason from Bronya, handicapping her ability to fight, and so it fell to Seele to keep them safe. Becoming overwhelmed, Seele asked Dark Seele for help and offered her full control of their body. Dark Seele asked if she was sure of her decision, to which Seele affirms, as the former was who she trusted the most. Fulfilling Seele's request, Dark Seele took control and unleashed the full capacity of their powers. The puppets continued to taunt Dark Seele, but to little effect, and were instead met with insults about the way they spoke, looked, and behaved. Realizing that their words no longer had any effect on her, the puppets fled and left only Quantum Shadows for Dark Seele to fight.
Soon after, she reunited with Bronya. Not knowing how to approach her, Dark Seele pretends to be Seele, albeit awkwardly. Bronya sees through her and cautiously remarked that she knows who Dark Seele is, much to the latter's surprise. Realizing that Dark Seele isn't a threat, Bronya asked for her cooperation in getting out of the imaginary space, which Dark Seele complied. Once they're out, they chatted a bit about what happened in the theater. Dark Seele, not wanting a prolonged conversation with Bronya, was ready to leave before Bronya stopped her asking when will she see Dark Seele again. Bronya explained that she already knew that Seele was hiding something and that she tend to behave differently at times back at the orphanage. Dark Seele was surprised that Bronya noticed the small changes in Seele's behavior, the latter simply stated that she remembers everything Seele says. Bronya also says although Dark Seele acts the way she does, she doesn't mean any harm and thanked her for protecting Seele all these years. Before leaving, Bronya asked what should she call Dark Seele with which she replied with 'Dark' Seele to differentiate easier.
One night, Seele was writing a report on the new herrscher case. Now reassured and feeling much better, Dark Seele praised Seele's effort involving the case of the new herrscher even telling her that Seele is too modest in the report. Seele replied that if she could, she would include Dark Seele's involvement. She wants to introduce Dark Seele to her friends, but the latter refuses saying that she's fine with the way things are. Dark Seele joked that one day she might take over Seele's body and start dancing on the table, Seele taking it seriously suggesting she should change her clothes before doing that. Dark Seele also made sure that Seele knows when to call for help since she'll become more involved with the case. Seele asked Dark Seele if the puppets still bothering her which the latter replied no but still has unsettling feelings ever since they left the theater.
Moon Arc[ | ]
Dark Seele was separated from Seele throughout the beginning of the arc, thanks to Hare and the effects of Project Stigma. They reunited when Dark Seele managed to escape while Hare was distracted. She only reappeared again after the group escaped to the Eye of the Deep. While working together, Bronya noted that this was the second time they'd met, which Dark Seele corrected that it was actually the third, which confused Bronya. Dark Seele said during the events in Kolosten, where Bronya was incapacitated after summoning Seleane, she unconsciously called Seele's name, it's just that Bronya didn't realize which Seele she called. Feeling sorry for Seele, Dark Seele decided to use most of her energy to use the healing capabilities of the abyss flower. Hearing all of this only incite laughter from Bronya, who thanked Dark Seele for all she's done.
Dark Seele noted that the reason she didn't come much was because she already saw how capable Seele is during her time in New Atra. Respecting her wishes, Dark Seele decided to step back and only appear if Seele needs her to. Dark Seele asked Bronya if she was actually looking for her, to which the latter answered 'yes' because they're both "Seele" after all, much to Dark Seele's embarrassment.
Dance of Life and Death Arc[ | ]
Respecting Seele's wishes, Dark Seele took a step back and mostly let Seele does things on her own. Seele and Susannah were tasked to investigate a strange phenomenon in Nagazora. She only showed up when Seele stayed up late talking to Bronya after finishing up the day. Seele apologized for not talking to her since the start of the mission, Dark Seele took this opportunity to tease Seele about staying up late and her sleeping habits. Dark Seele noted that Seele did a lot during the investigation and if things go well, Seele could be fully independent and the former will always be watching over her. Though Seele agreed, she still needs Dark Seele's input and advice since she considers the latter her role model as well. Not knowing how to respond, Dark Seele urged Seele to sleep. While waiting to fall asleep as well, Dark Seele thought to herself that Seele has grown a lot and even though she was happy for her, she still feel really sad about it.
During a mission with Susannah, Seele accidentally fell into the Sea of Quanta. Due to the laws of Sea of Quanta, Seele and Dark Seele were able to separate themselves, much to Susannah's confusion. As they fight their way through Quantum Monsters, the three of them ended up in a bubble universe while trying to find a way back to the origin world, with Seele and Dark Seele arriving separately without any means of communication with each other.
Dark Seele, feeling anxious and worried about Seele, made her way through her area and encountered wisps, which were later revealed to be the residents of the bubble universe. Not having other clues about the bubble universe, she decided to help the residents in collecting 'moon rocks' which they claimed to help them retain their form. While looking, Dark Seele accidentally triggered one of the moon rocks, feeling a familiar sensation in her hand like someone was holding it. She instinctively called out "Seele" before the feeling went away.
